While these events were taking place the Megarians were finding themselves in distress because of their war with the Athenians on the one hand and with their exiles on the other hand. And while representatives1 were exchanging opinions regarding the exiles, certain citizens2 who were hostile to the exiles approached the Athenian generals with the offer to deliver the city to them.
