[18] λευκανίης ἐπεμάσσατο: 'she clutched at her throat'; see note to 3.106. For λευκανίης cf. 2. 192. It is here used, not for the gullet, but for the throat generally, a meaning which some assign in Il. 22. 325 (v. Leaf). In Hom. the form λαυκανίη is the best attested, but in 2. 192 our mss. agree in λευκανίηνδε. There Beck adopted λαυκανίηνδε, which had been suggested by Brunck. Here L has λαυκανίης. Merkel and Seaton strangely read λευκανίηνδε but λαυκανίης.
κουρὶξ … πλοκάμους: for the pleonasm see on 3. 1393. The Schol. explains τουρίξ by κατὰ κόρρης, κατὰ κεφαλῆς, but it is connected with κουρά, κείρω.
