This decree is a good speci- men of ignorant forgery. The Archon's name and the date are both wrong; it is called a decree of the Senate and the People, when it was passed by the Senate alone; it provides for the appointment of five envoys when there were ten, and these had been appointed long before; it provides for the oaths to be taken by Athens and her allies, when these had already been taken; and most of the five names of the envoys are wrong.
