1. φιλίαν, ξενίαν, properly friendship and guest-friendship, here seem to be used with little thought of the distinction. Cf. ξενίαν Ἀλεξάνδρου (3) and οὔτε Φιλ. ξένον οὔτε Ἀλεξ. φίλον (below).

2. εἶπε λέγων: cf. εἶπε φωνῶν, Aeschyl. Ag. 205, “spake, saying.

3. ὀνειδίζων: Aesch. had said (66), τὴν ξενίαν ἐμοὶ προφέρων τὴν Ἀλεξάνδρου.

4. πόθεν...ἀξιωθέντι; with dra- matic energy for πόθεν ἔλαβες πῶς ἠξιώθης; cf. § 128.3.

6. θεριστὰς, reapers, properly ex- tra farm-hands, called in at the harvest.
