νόμῳ … καθαρός, because he had been first struck by Laïus, and was acting in self-defence. Plat. Legg. 869C “ἀδελφὸς δ᾽ ἐὰν ἀδελφὸν κτείνῃ ἐν στάσησι” “μάχης γενομένης ἤ τινι τρόπῳ τοιούτῳ, ἀμυνόμενος ἄρχοντα χειρῶν πρότερον, καθάπερ πολέμιον ἀποκτείνας ἔστω καθαρός: καὶ ἐὰν πολίτης πολίτην ὡσαύτως, ἢ ξένος ξένον”.
