[576] ῥοδανόν, so MSS.; what Aph.and Ar. read is uncertain, but may have been “ῥαδινόν”. We must suppose that “ῥοδανόν”, which does not recur in Greek, is identical in sense with “ῥαδινόν”, and means pliant, waving; so that the question is not very important. One ingenious scholiast reads “παρὰ Ῥοδανόν — ἔστι δὲ ποταμός” (“δονακῆα” being taken as adj. instead of subst.). Zen. derived his “ῥαδαλόν” from “κραδαλόν” = “εὐκράδαντον, εὐκίνητον”.
