Σαρδίων. H. here as always (except in c. 127) calls the satrapy ‘Sardis’, not ‘Lydia’ (v. 25 et pass., and Thuc. i. 115. 4); so too the Persian name for it was Cparda.

παθών. Diodorus (x. 16 (ii. 206 Teubner)), however, says that Polycrates had given provocation by murdering some Lydians to obtain their wealth.
