βοῦς. Hippocrates (de Aer. c. 18) confirms H. that the Scyths used oxen for draft, like the modern Calmucks.
οὐδὲ τοὺς παῖδας: cf. the counsel of Croesus (i. 155 n.); the sparing of the women seems to point to a Northern respect for the sex.
