1 Isaac Hill, politician and journalist of New Hampshire, born Cambridge, Mass., 6 April, 1789, died Washington, D. C., 22 March, 1861. His parents removed to Ashburnham, Mass.; at the age of 14 he was apprenticed to the publisher of the Amherst Cabinet. In 1809 he went to Concord, N. H., purchased the American Patriot, changed its name to the New Hampshire Patriot, and made it the organ of the Republican party; for twenty years it had an immense influence. In 1828 he was an unsuccessful candidate for the U. S. Senate; in 1829 he was Second Comptroller of the Treasury; U. S. Senator, 1830-36; Governor of New Hampshire, 1836-39; U. S. Sub-Treasurer at Boston, 1840 41. His biography, speeches and miscellaneous writings were published in Concord, in 1835.—（Drake's Biographical Dictionary. )
