[75] Pius, grateful to his own birthplace and to the island which had sheltered his mother. Med., Pal., &c. have the spelling ‘Arquitenens,’ which Ladewig and Ribbeck adopt. The word is as old as Naevius: comp. Macrob. Sat. 6. 5. Another reading ‘prius,’ which would go with ‘errantem,’ is mentioned by Serv. and found in some MSS.
