[593] ‘Deripient’ is the emendation of Heins. for ‘diripient.’ See on 1. 211., 3. 267, and comp. G. 2. 8. Bentley remarks that the Latin poets generally disliked a full stop at the end of the fifth foot. The present case is an exception which proves the rule, the whole passage being intentionally made more abrupt and broken than usual.
