Ἀριαβίγνης: commander of the Ionian and Carian contingent (vii. 97). Plutarch (Them. 14) speaks of the death of the king's brother and admiral Ariamenes. He elsewhere (Mor. 488 D; cf. Justin, ii. 10) speaks of the same Ariamenes as having contested the throne with Xerxes, where H. (vii. 2) writes of Artobazanes. χειρῶν νόμῳ = Attic ἐν χερσί, comminus, in hand-to-hand fighting; cf. ix. 48. 2.
