ξυντομώτατον (neut. as adv.) is the best correction of the MS. “ξυντομωτάτως”. A few such forms in “-ως” have MS. authority in good writers, though they are mostly comparatives, as “βεβαιοτέρως, ἐρρωμενεστέρως” (Isocr.), “καλλιόνως, σαφεστέρως”, etc. In Eur. Suppl. 967γηράσκω δυστηνότατος οὔτ᾽” is corrected by Reiske to “δυστηνοτάτως”, which metre commends: but this is an almost isolated example. There is thus a strong presump tion in favour of the ordinary form where, as here, it can easily be restored.—Wecklein reads “ξυντομωτάτων”: “"I would hit on the briefest mode of speech."”—Cp.
