Hephaestus and Athena were closely associated in the Attic belief; see the legend of Erichthonius, the feasts Χαλκεῖα and Ἀπατούρια, and the Ἀθηναία Ἡφαιστία recently established by inscriptions. Preller's Gr. Mythol. i. 146 f.
