Harpagus (110. 3) had threatened the herdsman in the name of the king. As this was an invention, he softens it down, and proceeds to justify it. The whole speech is very dramatic.
In 113. 3 he sent ‘spearmen’; some see in the ‘eunuchs’ here a trace of another version (cf. 95. 1) and even profess to find the character of Harpagus different (e. g. in c. 119). This is oversubtle.
