This is the earliest instance of the recognition of Lacedaemonian headship in Greece. Later instances, chronologically arranged, are: i. 152 (Ionians, c. 546 B.C. In the same cap. the Lacedaemonians themselves also claim it); vi. 108 (the Plataeans, 519 B. C., but vid. n. ad loc.); iii. 148 (Maeandrius, c. 514 B. C.); vi. 84 (the Scythians); v. 49 (Athens against Aegina, 491 B. C.). All these lead up to the recognized hegemony against Xerxes, vii. 161. 2; viii. 2. 2.
