ἕαδε. There were four points in the Theraean decree: (a) The number of colonists must have been fixed. This is omitted by H., unless it has fallen out of his text. (b) They were to be selected by lot, but only sons (ἀδελφεὸν ἀπ᾽ ἀδελφεοῦ) were exempted. (c) Every district of the island was to contribute a share. (d) Battus was to be oecist and king; monarchy, which survived in Thera, was to be set up in its colonies.

ἄνδρας is emphatic; they married Libyan wives; cf. Alexidamus, Pind. P. ix. 215.
