Ἐρυθράς: cf. ch. 15. 3 n. ἐπὶ τῆς ὑπωρέης. This position on the foothills of Cithaeron would give them protection against the attacks of the Persian cavalry, and would also cover the passes and roads to Attica and the Megarid, by which supplies and reinforcements reached them (ch. 28. 2, 38. 2, 39. 2).
