τὸ πρὸς Λιβύης. H. does not accept the name of ‘the Libyan mountain’ (cf. § 3 ad fin. Λ. καλεόμενον); to him it is ‘the Egyptian mountain on the side of Libya’, as opposed to τὸ τῆς Ἀραβίης ὄρος. ψάμμῳ. This drifting of the sand is well seen at the Sphinx, of which only the head is left exposed. τρόπον, ‘direction’ (cf. i. 189. 3).
