ὑγίεια: if the word is sound, it must be taken as an absolute addition to the proper question which ends with ὦ Σώκρατες. The diffuse ness of the whole passage favors the view that the construction must not be rigidly pressed here.
τἄν: for τοι ἄν, as we frequently find μεντἄν for μέντοι ἄν. Cf. Apol. 29 a δεινὸν τἂν εἴη.
18 f. καὶ αὐτός: like et ipse, “likewise,” while recognizing the claims of the physician, shows also a consciousness of his own importance as compared with Gorgias. This calls forth in the reply the address ὦ ἄνθρωπε, which indicates some degree of contempt and surprise.
