The art. is omitted before τριήρεις, although it has a different gender from that of the preceding substan tive. Cf. Phaedo 111 c καὶ τόν γε ἥλιον καὶ σελήνην καὶ ἄστρα ὁρᾶσθαι ὑπ᾽ αὐτῶν οἷα τυγχάνει ὄντα. Omission of the art. where both substantives are of the same gender is not uncommon. The two kindred ideas are thereby brought together into one conception. In the present passage, by this means we have the objects enumerated divided into classes: (1) the navy-yard, with the war-vessels therein contained; (2) the remaining vessels, whether they be public or private property. Similarly, Dem. Ol. ii. 9 τῷ _τὰ χωρία καὶ λιμένας καὶ τὰ τοιαῦτα προειληφέναι.

οὕτω γε: limits the answer, as if Polus still wished to save something from his earlier statement.
