LXIV. ὡς οὐχ οἷός τ᾽ εἰμὶ κτἑ.: this objection Callicles had only brought forward as a possibility, not as an actual fact (486 a, b). Socrates treats it as the latter, but even thus it does not misrepresent Callicles' sentiments.
5 f. ὥσπερ οἱ ἄτιμοι: see on 486 c. As the reading stands, τοῦ ἐθέλοντος must be considered as a variant for ἐπὶ τῷ βουλομένῳ. In spite of Plato's fondness for ποικιλία, it is hardly likely that he would use βούλεσθαι and θέλειν as identical in meaning.
