ἀγροικία: is the reverse of παιδεία. By this very criticism, Polus betrays that he is himself just as lacking in the polish of a gentleman, which he denies to Socrates, as in scientific knowledge.

κάλλιστε: the epithet suits the pompous rhetor excellently.

ὑεῖς: the addition of the word “sons,” though not strictly necessary, is quite natural, especially among people where the support of the parent by the son was so strictly enjoined as among the Greeks.
