: i.e. εἰ δὲ μὴ (πιμπλαίη).

ἆρα τοιούτου κτἑ.: comprehensive resumption of the protasis beginning with εἰ δυοῖν.

πείθω τι: the adverbial acc. of the indef. neut. pron. is frequent. See H. 719 b; G. 160, 2. The repetition of πείθω shows that Socrates attaches no value to the comparison as a proof, for one simile can be offset by an other, but it helps to clarify the idea.

τὸ ὥσπερ λίθον ζῆν: epexegetical to τοῦτο . . . κτἑ., in order to draw attention again to the earlier remark.—We must supply naturally the same subject to πληρώσῃ as to ζῆν.
