καί: but little different from καί τοι (and yet) in rejoinders, espepecially to statements made by the speaker. Cf. Apol. 29 b καὶ τοῦτο πῶς οὐκ ἀμαθία ἐστίν; Dem. vi. 16 κᾳὶ τίς ἂν ταῦτα πιστεύσειεν;

ἀνθρώπους ἀγαθοὺς κτἑ.: sc. as one must assume, according to the statement of the sophists. The addition of ἐξαιρεθέντας ἀδικίαν . . . ἀδικεῖν τούτῳ (just here lies the ἀδικία) οὐκ ἔχουσιν serves to bring out very strongly the want of consistency in the theory.

σχόντας: after they had gotten. See on 503 e. Cf. Apol. 19 a, Soph. E. 1256μόλις γὰρ ἔσχον νῦν ἐλεύθερον στόμα”.

ὡς ἀληθῶς δημηγορεῖν: here denotes the delivery of a long, connected discourse as opposed to dialectic investigation. It is also a reply to Callicles' accusation in 482 c ὡς ἀληθῶς δημηγόρος ὤν.
