6 f. . . σάρκας: Demosthenes expresses the same idea by a somewhat different simile in Ol. i. 15 ὥσπερ οἱ δανειζόμενοι ῥᾳδίως ἐπὶ τοῖς μεγάλοις τόκοις μικρὸν εὐπορήσαντες χρόνον ὕστερον καὶ τῶν ἀρχαίων ἀπέστησαν. Also with the following ἀλλ᾽ οἳ ἂν αὐτοῖς τύχωσιν παρόντες cf. Dem.
οἱ δ᾽ αὖ: the construction is loose, but the context prevents ambiguity.
10 f. ἥκῃ φέρουσα: gives a picture,—“it is actually at hand, bringing disease with it,”—for the more prosaic “has brought about disease.” See on 491 c.
