ἐν κοινῷ: i.e. so that, as being public property, it must be distributed.
οἱ μὲν ἰσχυροὶ κτἑ.: added be cause it is just in the distribution of food that one would expect bodily strength to form the standard.
περὶ ταῦτα: the acc. implies some mental activity.
