[319] ἴουλοι, ‘whiskers.’ Cp. Xen. Conviv. 4. 23τούτῳ μὲν ἴουλος παρὰ τὰ ὦτα καθέρπει” . Curtius regards the initial “” as a weakened reduplication, comparing “ἰαύω, Ἰουλώ” and “Οὐλώ”, names of Demeter, “ἰωρός” and “οὖρος, ἰωγή” for “ϝιϝωγή”.
