[42] τῷ δέ is the apodosis to ὅς τις, ‘illi non adsistit uxor.’ The singular παρίσταται refers to the wife alone; the children are included with her as subjects to γάνυνται. For another sort of confusion cp. “δοῦρα σέσηπε νεῶν καὶ σπάρτα λέλυνταί Il.2. 135.We may further compare “κοῦροι κρινθέντε δύω καὶ πεντήκοντα

βήτην . . κατήλυθον Od.8. 48.Kayser would read παρίσταντ᾽.
