[344] οὐδὲ Ποσειδάωνα. Here οὐδέ has the force of its separate constituents “οὐ δέ” or “ἀλλ᾽ οὐ”. Analogous to this are Il.5. 138λέοντα . . ὅν ῥά τε ποιμὴν

χραύσῃ μέν τ᾽ . . οὐδὲ δαμάσσῃ”, and 24. 25 “ἄλλοις μὲν πᾶσιν ἑήνδανεν, οὐδέ ποτ᾽” “Ἥρῃ”, in which passage however it is in correlation with “μέν”. Poseidon is represented as the most venerable of the gods of Olympus, next to Zeus; he was besides uncle to Ares.
