Lap′ping.

1. Grinding or polishing on wheels whose metallic rims are provided with emery and oil.

Glazing is done on wooden wheels.

Polishing on leather-covered wheels.

Buffing on leather, with rouge.


2. (Spinning.) Laying several fleeces or slivers together. See lapping-machine.


3. (Fabric.) A machine blanket used by calicoprinters.


4. (Ordnance.) Wearing away the land surface in a rifled gun to ease the entrance of the projectile.
