Lift′ing-piece.
(Horology.) A lever having a tooth which engages in notches in the count-wheel to restrain the striking. The count-wheel has 78 divisions, and notches are cut in it at the successive distances of 1, 2, 3, 4, etc., of the divisions. The lifting-piece being raised by a pin or a snail on one of the hour-wheels, the tooth of the lifting-piece rests on the rim of the count-wheel until the prescribed number of blows is given, according to the length of the space between the notches.
