Plat′form-bridge.


Railway-cars.) A gangway over the space between the platforms of adjacent cars in a train. It is a measure of safety, to prevent persons falling down between cars when in motion. In Fig. 3815 it is a gang-plank with arrangements to allow it to slip back and forth, but not slip off.

Car-platform bridge.

In Fig. 3816, the floor and sides of the bridge which unite the platforms of adjacent cars are made on the expanding lattice or lazy-tongs principle; they are contractible, to be taken on board, or are swung in on pivots when the cars are detached.
