This equals 7,000 grains, and is divided into 16 ounces, each ounce into 16 drams. The troy pound has 5,760 grains, divided into 12 ounces, each ounce into 20 pennyweights, each pennyweight containing 24 grains. The pound apothecary's weight is the same as the pound troy, but the ounces are divided into 8 drams, each dram into 3 scruples of 20 grains each. One hundred and forty-four pounds avoirdupois equals 175 pounds troy or apothecary's weight. The old Saxon pound sterling was a pound of silver troy weight.2. (Hydraulic Engineering.)
