Stink-ball.

A nasty pyrotechnic, which makes a suffocating smoke and odor, to be thrown among working parties, or on an enemy's deck at close quarters. It is composed of pitch, rosin, niter, gunpowder, colophony, assafoetida, sulphur, etc. Used by the Chinese and Malay pirates.
