Shipbuilding.) The pipe or tube in the stern of a vessel through which the propellershaft passes in-board. In wooden vessels it occupies a hole bored through the stern-post and dead-wood. In iron vessels it passes through a hole in the sternpost and through frames with circular arcs, which form bearings.
