1. (Surgical.) An instrument for feeling after urinary concretions. It partakes of the character of a catheter, a douche, and a forceps. The staff is a cannula. The bent ends are joined in introducing the instrument into the urethra, and are separable to grasp the stone. Through the stem may be introduced liquids to wash out the bladder. 2. A kind of probe used in examining a horse's hoof.

3. (Ordnance.) An instrument used for examining the bore of a gun. It is attached to a staff, and has steel points pressed outward by springs, so as to enter cavities, if any exist, when pushed in and drawn out and turned around in the bore.
