An instrument having jaws whose distance apart is indicated by a pointer and dial, or other means. In the example, the body to be measured is placed between the jaws, which are brought in contact with the opposite sides. The thirty-seconds of an inch are indicated by the jaw on the scale on the cylinder, and the hundredths of a thirty-second are indicated by the hand on the dial.
