Steel-cast′ing.

Fig. 5744 is an apparatus for making compressed cast-steel castings. The metallic molds are so arranged that the top part serves as the follower of a press, and is operated upon by screws. The top fits closely into the matrix, and is provided with ingates for the metal, which are closed by slides when the mold is full. The pressure is applied to the metal while in a melted state, by means of the screws, with sufficient force to expel the air and gas from and solidify the metal. See also steel-press.
