A cone of glass (d, Fig. 3545) with a paraboloidal depression which concentrates the illuminating. rays upon an object placed in the focus. A small disk mounted on an axial pin forms a dark background behind the semi-translucent object, which is illuminated by an annular pencil of rays passing around the edge of the disk. See spot-lens.
