Sprit′sail-yard.


Nautical.) A spar, occasionally used, crossing below the bowsprit a little abaft of the dolphin-striker, and used for securing the rigging of the jib-boom and flying jib-boom.

A pair of spars pointing obliquely downward at opposite sides of the bowsprit are sometimes used instead of the spritsail-yard. These spars are known as spritsail-gaffs.
