Wire-spring Coil′ing-ma-chine′.

A machine for forming spiral springs from strips of metal.

In Fig 7298, the heated strip of metal is held by a guide-rest H, and its end inserted in a slot in the mandrel e, which turns loosely in the screw E. The mandrel is rotated by being brought into connection with the chuck b. By means of gear connections, the sliding-block I supporting the guide-rest is automatically lowered as the spring is coiled on the spindle, and the screw and mandrel are retracted by means of a hand-lever and gears.
