Wolf.

A beating or opening machine, for tearing apart the tussocks of cotton as delivered in the bale. It is a preliminary operation, by which dust and trash are rendered separable and the fiber delivered in a [2800] more downy condition, so as to subsequently form a lap.

Also called a devil, willower, twilly, etc. See cotton-cleaning machine.
