Put′logs.

The transverse pieces a a in a scaffolding which rest in holes in the wall at one end, and on the ledgers b at the other end. The ledgers are fastened or lashed to the scaffold poles.

Putlogs.

The holes for the putlogs are yet visible in the Pont du Garde erected by the Romans in Gaul. They are called columbaria by Vitruvius, from their resemblance to nests in dovecots.
