Gun′ner's Quad′rant.

The gunner's quadrant is a graduated are of 90°, or rather more, made of brass or wood, and having an arm attached which is passed into the bore of the gun for the purpose of ascertaining the elevation. The wooden level has a leaden bullet suspended by a string, which indicates the perpendicular, the deviation from which is measured on the are. The metallic quadrant is of more elaborate construction, and has a spirit-level attached. See gunner's level.
