In-ter′nal gear.

A wheel whose cogs are on the internal perimeter, as in the example where the pinions on the shaft D are driven by engagement with the internal gear of the driving-wheels B. Inside the box S is a bevel pinion on shaft D, which turns a shaft on which is a wrist-wheel R, from which proceeds the pitman, which reciprocates the cutter-bar of the barvester.

Many agricultural implements have internal gearwheels.
