ἐκπέρσαντα: for the acc., cf. 1.541. The partic. here contains the leading thought; they were to sack Troy before their return; see § 3 v.

ἀπονέεσθαι: always stands at the close of the verse, with lengthened initial syllable (§ 41 g). For the pres. inf. after “ὑπέσχετο”, cf. “ὑπόσχηται τόδε ἔργον ἄνδρας δυσμενέας σκοπιαζέμεν” (spy out) 10.39 f.
