ἡδὺ γέλασσαν: burst into a merry laugh. This laughter quiets their excitement, cf. “Α 599, πάντες ἐπ̓ αὐτῷ ἡδὺ γέλασσαν μνηστῆρες, καὶ δὴ μέθιεν χαλεποῖο χόλοιο φ” 376 f.
