ἐπὶκνέφας ἐλθεῖν: cf. 1.475. —The infs. depend on “δός” implied in the invocation, cf. “Γ 351, Ζεῦ πάτερ ἢ Αἴαντα λαχεῖν ἢ Τυδέος υἱόν Η” 179. The opt. follows in v. 418.—The wish reminds of Joshua's words: ‘Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
