Γερήνιος: so called from the Messenian town where Nestor was bred and which was his place of refuge when Heracles sacked Pylos.—“ἱππότα: ἱππότης, ἱππεύς”, knight; but he was not mounted on horseback like the latter “ἱππῆς”.
